Challenge Your Disability Initiative (CYDI) is a Non-Governmental Organization based in Bauchi State, North East of Nigeria. It is initiated by Hajiya Hauwa Abiodun Isa Yuguda in July 2007 with the aim of improving the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Bauchi state and beyond.
Challenge Your Disability Initiative (CYDI) is a rehabilitative and empowerment programme aimed at supporting Children, youths and adults with various forms of disabilities and drug addicts to become self- sustainable and independent person; capable of contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development in Bauchi State and beyond. CYDI was established with a mission to provide quality services to persons faced with arduous challenge of overcoming one form of disability or another.
The mission is predicated on the findings of studies that shows a high degree of maladjustment, juvenile delinquency and neglect that disabled persons and drug addicts encounter in Bauchi State and beyond. CYDI believes that Education and Skill acquisition are some of the major components which are indicative of self and economic development. The benefits of investing in skill acquisition and education contribute immensely to economic growth and eradication of poverty.
Challenge Your Disability Initiative was established to complement the efforts of Government through our human centred vocational training, education and social integration programmes geared towards rehabilitating and empowering people living with disability.
CYDI has helped to get some PWDs off the street and improved the lots of these people. CYDI works with several organizations, both local and international towards achieving its mission. For these three years, CYDI has worked in Bauchi, Gombe and Yobe states, covering 6 local governments and can convincingly say that over 1000 PWDs have been positively affected by our work.
CYDI has created a niche for itself and over these three years, been building upon its mission of improving the lives of PWDs and making them active members of the society.
